Scientific contributions

How to submit a contribution

Scientific contributions are proposed in the form of abstract [plain text only, 500 word limit*].

The abstract template can be downloaded here.

Submissions exceeding the word limit or submitted in a different template will be desk rejected and not reviewed. Abstracts will be blind-reviewed by experts selected by the Programme Committee. All authors are warmly encouraged to participate in the review process. During the submission process, the authors will have the possibility to indicate the most relevant overarching theme, although the final decision about the programme will be made by the Programme Committee.

We invite two types of scientific contributions:

  • Basic research: includes the presentation of novel technological solutions, interfaces, computational methods and algorithms at any stage of development, either tested in laboratory settings or in-the-wild with people with disabilities. This theme includes also research presenting theoretical innovations advancing the understanding of user interaction with AT and AT service delivery and evaluation. The presentation of innovative AT design methods and paradigms are also welcome.
  • Applied research: targets research whose outcomes are helpful for improving the daily practices of AT professionals or advancing the understanding of AT-related systems worldwide. Includes presentations of quantitative/qualitative evaluations of existing services and policies, as well cross-country comparisons of AT practices, policies and systems. Contributions presenting the development and use of instruments and methodologies to assess AT outcomes and costs as well as initiatives to promote AT use in all areas of life (e.g., education, work, leisure) are in scope.

To submit an individual scientific contribution, please follow the submission procedure at: https://conference2019.aaate.net/

* The 500 word limit does not include the Tweetable abstract.

After your contribution has been accepted

Each accepted Abstract will be presented in an oral session (10 min + 3 min for Q&A). We ask authors to carefully select the theme as it will have an impact on how the submission will be judged, and which reviewers will be recruited.

Accepted abstracts will be published in the format of abstracts (no full text required!) in a Supplementary Issue of the journal Technology and Disability. The Supplementary Issue will receive a DOI.

Authors of accepted abstracts will be also invited to submit their research as a full-paper to the journal Technology and Disability.

Please note that authors of accepted abstracts can only register for the full conference.
